What is a Maxillofacial Prosthetist?

A Maxillofacial Prosthetist registered as a Full Member (MIMPT) of the IMPT will have undergone an extensive period of specialist training, followed by rigorous peer assessment before they are entered onto the only UK voluntary register of Maxillofacial Prosthetists. This register has been recognised by the Department of Health and the General Dental Council. Being a full member of the IMPT is an important distinction for you as a patient or referring healthcare practioner. We would recommend that you check who is treating you by asking to see their qualifications, asking what experience they have, ask if they have indemnity insurance to carry out treatments on you and also ask that they have undergone the same checks offered by the IMPT. You can also check if this person is a member of the IMPT by contacting the IMPT Registrar.

In the UK we are referred to as Maxillofacial Prosthetists. In other countries they also use terms such as Anaplastologist (USA and Europe) and Epithetist (Europe).
